Q1 Give 3 safety procedures that must be implemented when carrying out chemical analyses?

A: Read MSDS on the chemical. Wear PPE. Use fume cupboards to isolate the chemical if applicable.

Q2 Give 3 different safety procedures that must be implemented when performing analyses involving biological material?

A: Using special bins for waste. Using sharp bins for pipette tops. Wear PPE.

Q3 What information does an MSDS contain?

A: The MSDS contains information on potential hazards around the lab, and how to work safely with them. Contains information on storage, age, medical advice, handling and emergency protocols when using the chemicals. Has much more information than the label on the bottle of the chemical.

Q4 Where are the MSDSs for chemicals (that are used during experiments) kept in this laboratory?

A: Beside computers in the lab and digital copies on the computers.

Q5 How should you dispose of a piece of paper towel used to wipe up a spill of dilute NaCl?

A: General waste bin.
