I felt that there were seven major deliverables for The Manchester United Club case. (1) Look for sponsors, (2) Referees/Teams/Artist, (3) Rules/Regulations, (4) Buy equipment, (5) Draw up a detailed/itemized schedule, (6) Tournament Apparel, and (7) Search for Venue/soccer field. I also made the list and drew up a draft of what I believe would be a good WBS for this tournament. The sub deliverables for each deliverable would be (1) Reach out to local businesses, (1) Come up with presentation for potential sponsors, (2) Finalize entry fees for teams/payment for referees/artist, (4) Purchase soccer balls, (4) Purchase medals/trophies, (5) Finalize dates/times, line up for matches and award ceremony, (6) Design art/MUSC logo/sponsors, (7) Contact local colleges/soccer fields. The lowest sub deliverables would be (1) Secure sponsors, (2) Advertise for teams/referees, (5) Advertise the tournament, (7) Decide the best field to hold tournament and secure.

As for the arguments over whether to use trophies or medals, if she had a WBS drawn up it could solve all the questions over cost and which would be a better fit for this tournament. It will also help in developing an OBS, which will assign responsibities to the right person/group with the appropriate skill set. Lastly, it can be used for future projects as a learning tool for what worked and what did not.

Nicolette Larson can find other information to develop her WBS for the tournament by asking other project managers of other clubs who have experience...
