It is important to always work on improving and maintaining the relationships in your life. These can be with family, friends, and co-workers. A person must first understand that not only the words that are spoken, but the tone of your voice, facial expression, body language and how attentive you are being to the conversation.

The relationship you have with a spouse or significant other is probably the most important in your life. This is the most intimate of all of your relationships. The lines of communication must always be open in this relationship. You should take this relationship for granted; always listen to what your partner is saying by reading through the lines. It is also very important to read their body language, are they really listening to you or watching the television or playing with their cell phone. Having someone’s full attention when talking is a key factor to making sure that what is being said is always being understood and acknowledged. This relationship has to have total trust.

Relationships with your family members can also be intimate. Your family members should feel that they can trust you and you should feel the same way. Like the relationship with your significant other this relationship will always be a work in progress. You should learn your family members, be able to hear the tone they are speaking in and understand they body language they using.

Friends can either be close or just acquaintances. There are friends who tell you everything in their life and you do the same and then there are those you just say hello to and have very casual conversations with. The close friends are the ones that you need to be able to understand more.
