Corruption in the Police Force
Abstract
This research paper looks at the senior management of police and how it can come up with policies to enable curb the malady of corruption that has had a corrosive on the service provision by the police officers.
Corruption has been a menace to the police force for a long time and it usually compromises the credibility of the police officers. Therefore there is an urgent need to come up with ways of fighting it since it affects efficient administration of justice.
The paper identifies the various sources of corruption and how the influence the administration of justice. Some of the factors discussed are such as; political interference, ignorance by the public, threats from opinion leaders and complexities brought about by multi-agency relationships.
Solutions and recommendations that can be implemented by the senior management are discussed. Some of these solutions require full implementations whereas others require incremental and one where the management does nothing since it is beyond their mandate.
1.0 Introduction
Police in any given scenario are charged with maintain law and order and ensuring a peaceful and tranquil environment for citizens and inhabitants of any given place. Discussed below are factors which might affect their work in their quest to administer justice and the solutions that can be initiated by the senior management.
2.1 Political interference
In administration of justice the police face a lot of challenges in their quest to provide justice face a massive influence and pressure from those bigwigs in the political arena or the government under whose reign they operate.
In 1979 the national police commission revealed that transfers and suspensions were the ultimate weapons used by the politicians to bend the will of the police officers. In addition to this it said that that the political scene had eroded internal command chain within the police structures.
