Beauty: How Importance is to Happiness/Success A response to Bethany in “Beauty by Jane Martin

I.

Author John Eldredge Stated in Captivating, “ We think you’ll find that every women in her heart of hearts longs for three things: to be romanced, to play an irreplaceable role in a great adventure, and to unveil beauty that’s what makes a women come alive,” and Bethany, you desire these things but do not understand the tasks at hand.

A. In Jane Martin’s play, Beauty, the desire for something you lack is stronger than your happiness with what you have.

B. Men flock and people stare, because you are the center of any moment of your life. (Lines 67-68)

C. The way you perceive beauty is untamed, hoping for things to occur that shouldn’t. Half the time, it never occur to them to start a conversation. You ask for someone to not invest in who you are, but what your looks only offer. Temporary happiness.

II.

A. But it’s not what everybody wants.

1. It’s not what I want. I lack skills of communication and interest \, and all I have is looks and that doesn’t bring Happiness. The one thing I have going for me has become my crutch, keeping me from things I need that will not fade.

2. Carla states “I barely exist outside a mirror! You don’t want to be me.”

3. “Don’t do it Bethany \, don’t wish it! I am telling you, you’ll regret it.”

III.

A. “You are beautiful!”

B. You have charm. You have personality. You know perfectly well you’re pretty .”

C. Charm and personality have the qualities of being pretty, you should know that.

D. Charm is a trait that people lust after. Personality is something created and admired. Being pretty is the result of the two.

E. Bethany has knowledge and skills that help her converse with other people, and Carla lacks that which is desired. “ It is better than beauty for me : it’s better than brains for you.”
