Intro to Policing

The three police departments I researched are the Chicago Police Department, the Illinois State Police, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. I researched the Chicago Police Department and the Illinois Police because I live in the city of Chicago, so I felt it was a need to do the local police and the state police. I chose Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department because I have family and friends that live there and maybe in the near future it would be a nice area for me to live. All three police departments have different information on them but all revolving around the same motive, which is serve and protect. All three police departments tackle crime differently.

The Chicago Police Department is located in the state of Illinois. Right now, the Chicago Police Department is currently looking for future police officers to serve and protect the city. The Chicago Police Department have lowered the age to now 18 to be a police officer due to the increase of violence. On the main page of the Chicago Police Department they have videos for you to watch that basically tell you who they are, the service that they do, how being a police officer is a challenge, and what the mission of a police officer is. I found these videos to be very interesting and helpful because I plan on taking the test to be a Chicago Police officer just so I can get my foot in the door. I have also found interesting is that they put information on the website on how to pass all three portions of the police test in video format so you can actually see what has to be done for you to pass the test. What I have found to be beneficial for communities is that they talk about what type of community programs they have to prevent crime in neighborhoods. There wasn’t anything on the site that I didn’t like or that I disagreed with. All the information that is on the Chicago Police Department website I found helpful and informative.
