The Lost Friend

Friendship, it can last forever, or can last two minutes. Two and a half years ago my best friendship that had been blossoming for over fifteen years was torn straight down the middle by a girl. Before Kayla was promoted to girlfriend status, she tried to talk to my best friend for over a year. When Jesse finally succumbed to her overpowering wrath, I realized that our friendship was taking a turn, and not for the better. I was about four when I met my best friend; while I was at church watching the other guys play football, Jesse came up to me with his Game Boy, and started an everlasting relationship with me, or so I thought.

We were sitting in the youth section one Wednesday night when suddenly I saw this strange creature standing in front of the best friend that I had known for years. The first thought that went through my mind was “hey she’s cute, how bad could this be”, about a year later I was thinking “that was the biggest mistake I have ever made”. I could not have been more right, slowly but surely Jesse was being dragged away from me by his feet. Kayla was taking her time, almost toying with me, even.

When my family attended Jesse’s party, there was his ball and chain stuck to him tighter than a lid is on an unopened can of green beans. Wherever he went, or whatever he did, there was Kayla, stealing my best friend. Needless to say, I did not spend much time with him that day. As the party progressed, everyone was pushing him to ask her out before the party was over, including me. What I did not realize is that he wanted to take his time and be sure that is what he wanted. Unfortunately at the end of the day the peer pressure from his friends finally pierced him, and he asked the girl out that has now been his girlfriend for over a year.

The peer pressure is what affected Jesse the most, if his friends and I would not have pressured him into making his decision, the outcome...
