Helen Hunt Jackson was born October 15, 1830 to Nat Welby Fiske and Deborielle Waterman Vinal. She had two brothers who soon died after birth and one sister who name was Anne. She lost her mother in 1844 when Helen was 15. In 1847 thier father died. When her father died he finacially provided for Helens education and also arranged for her Uncle to care for her. While attending Pswich Female Seminary and the Abbott Institute she met a classmate in which she was a renowened poet. At the age of 22 in 1852 she married U.S. Army Captain Edward Bissell Hunt. They had two sons. In 1854 Murray Hunt which is one of her sons died of brain diseas. Nine years afther there son died her husband dies in a military accident, soon afther in 1865 her son Rennie Hunt died of diphtheria. By 1874 she then met her second husband William Sharless Jackson, who was a wealthy bank and railroad excutive.(Married in 1875).

Afther all the deaths of her family members she began to writting her first noval in December 1883, in her Yew York hotel room, which tittled In The Name of the Law , but published as Romona (1884)In. Romona was a orphan girl who was half indian and half scots, who struggled for the land of their own. The book have been printed 300 times. It's romantic story contributed to tourism to South Carolina because people wanted to see places decribed in he noval. In 1885 in San Francisco California Helen Hunt Jackson died of stomach cancer. Her estates are worth $12,642.

In Southern California, a little after the Mexican American War,Ramona who was a Scots-Native American orphan girl, was raised by Senora Gonzaga Moreno, the sister of Ramona's deceased foster mother.
