INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE OF RESEARCH

BACKGROUND INFORMATION TO THE PROBLEM

TITLE: Destruction of marine animals due to pollution at King’s Wharf San Fernando.

Pollution is the introduction by man directly or indirectly of substances or energy into the environment resulting in deleterious effects of such nature as to endanger human health, harm to living resources and ecosystems, hinder marine activities- including fishing and impair or interfere with amenities or other legitimate users of the environment.

Oil spills and sedimentation due to land-based activities cause destruction of marine animals by mass pollution of the ocean.

PROPOSE OF RESEARCH

The purpose of this study is to vividly explore how pollution leads to the destruction of marine animals at King’s Wharf San Fernando. As a student currently studying Environmental Science, I chose to research this topic to further educate myself about marine destruction and how it affects not only the environment but our marine population. This study will focus on the major causes of coastal pollution, how it affects the environment and what recommendations can be made to mitigate the problem associated with pollution.

The research seeks to bring awareness and sensitise with the public about the major problems associated with pollution and highlight certain measures that can be put in place to eradicate the problems. The project also seeks to educate and inform the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago about the importance of our marine animals, as a Caribbean territory, and why we...
