Daydream

It was a normal day in Mrs. Ohlsen’s Anatomy class at Castle High School. You can hear the sound of Darwin, a hedgehog, moving around in his cage, and you can smell the peanut butter and jelly sandwich that somebody is eating behind you. You can still taste the coffee in your mouth that you drank this morning so you could stay awake in this class. You can faintly hear Mrs. Ohlsen’s voice as you’re thinking about your plans for this weekend with your friends. Suddenly you hear the song “We’re All in This Together” from High School Musical; somebody’s phone was going off again and you start singing the song in your head. Zac Efron’s face pops into your head now and he is all you can think about, his dreamy eyes and his hair when it’s pushed back, he is just beautiful and you’ve had a crush on him since elementary school. You have always dreamed of meeting him and falling in love.

“Honey, dinner is ready!” I yell to my husband as me and our two kids wait for him at the dinner table.

“I’ll be down when this game is over!” Zac yells back.

He says this every night and then gets upset when his food is too cold. The kids, Ryan and Hannah, look devastated that their dad chose the game over dinner again. I go upstairs and try to convince him to come downstairs but he refuses to until the football game ends. That is all he ever does now, watch football and eat. I let it slide when he first lost his acting job, but now he is gaining so much weight and he never spends time with the family. Nobody wants him in any of their movies because he got a huge head and was always so bossy and controlling. Everything had to be his way or else he would quit. Well, they ended up firing him and nobody has wanted him since. I go back downstairs and the kids are begging me to ask Zac one more time to eat dinner with the family, so I go back upstairs. I hear the announcer as I am walking up the stairs say that they just started the second quarter so the game is nowhere near...
