In researching the National Labor Relations Board I learned who they are, what they do, and the rights they protect. This information has helped me to associate past labor practices with relating to how we have established labor practices in society today to safeguard equal rights.

The National Labor Relations Board is also known as NLRB and was created by Congress in 1935. This federal private agency protects the rights of employees to gather together, with or without union representation so that they can lobby to improve their wages and working conditions. The NRLB works together to make sure that fair labor practices are executed throughout the private workforce industry. The main purpose of the board is to ensure they enforce the National Labor Relations Act, NLRA commonly called the Wagner Act, which is to establish and clarify the rights of employees. The Wagner Act says employees have the right to unionize and bargain collectively. Congress empowered the National Labor Relations Board to rule on alleged unfair labor practices under the Wagner Act. In 1947, Congress passed the Labor-Management Relations Act, commonly called the Taft-Hartley Act because under protection of the Wagner Act unions increased in power and in order to curb potential union abuses the act was passed by Congress. The board is there also to help employees if they think that they have been treated unfairly, violated or wrongfully reprimanded, for employees to petition for a union representation in the workplace. The process would be for the employee to file charges with their regional NLRB office.

Employees that are covered under the NLRB have certain rights that are entitled to them to help them gain better working conditions, fair wages, whether there is union representation or no union representation.
