Mr. Murugavel Janakiraman is a person who pioneered in making Marriages fixed in the virtual world, i.e. the Internet. He is the creator of BharatMatrimony.com, which he created in 1997 in his free time, a part of his hobby.

Mr. Janakiraman aged 39 holds a Masters Degree Holder in Computer Science from the University of Madras. He was born and brought up Chennai, and comes from a very poor family. His father was a porter in the Chennai Harbor and his mother was a homemaker. After a lot of struggle during his early part of his life, he started working and supported his family to the utmost level.

Mr. Janakiraman started his career in a Chennai based Nucleus Software, where he was earning Rs.5000/pm just enough for living. Luck favored him, got a job in job offer in the Silicon Valley in the US, where he started earning good money and stayed for a long period. He also worked as a consultant in the U.S for leading companies on software projects and it was here that he acquired valuable information on Internet technologies.

In 1997, he was working for AT&T when he started building a website in his free time. His intention was to create a website similar to hotmail or yahoo, the specialty of his website was intended to bring a link to the happenings in South India (Tamil Nadu) and the Tamilians Worldwide. He felt that Tamilians living abroad had disconnect to actual happenings in Tamil Nadu. The matrimony section was just a name-sake in the website. The matrimony section started getting more and more hits, there was an option for members to register online and put up bride and groom profiles. Within a span of a year, and registered members grew to 4000.
