Therapy: How can we help you?

* People may turn to a therapist to help treat their psychological disorder; others seek it to prevent psychological suffering during periods of adjustment during their lives.

* Adjustments could include the transition from middle school to high school, high school to college, or college to the workplace.

* During this lesson, you will learn about psychological treatments and other resources available to support individuals with psychological disorders and their families.

Why Therapy

* Therapy is an effective way to help people suffering from a psychological disorder; often used with biomedical treatment, psychotherapy can lessen psychological distress and/or reduce symptoms of a particular disorder.

* Psychotherapy: general term for treatment provided by a trained professional to an individual, family, or group to relieve psychological distress; also known as ‘talk therapy’

* Psychotherapists include psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health counselors, and social workers

* Every therapist has their own approach to clients; most often an eclectic approach
