Yesterday was National Bible Sunday and the 3rd Sunday in ordinary time. My family and I attended the Sunday mass in Archdiocesan Shrine of Jesus which is located near Mall of Asia. The gospel was according to Mark 1:14-20. It is summed up in the words: “This is the time of fulfillment. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” The Kingdom of God is the center of idea which surrounds the Lord’s message. I realized that the word ‘Kingdom’ does not necessarily refer to a place rather it points to the ruling power of God. It refers to a power which is based most importantly in love. When there is love everyone will have a good relationship with each other. Moreover, there will always be peace and harmony. And this is what God wants.

The priest mentioned that we shouldn’t let our mistakes from the past takeaway our hopes. In other words, we shouldn’t let the past affect us anymore. Thus we should keep moving forward. To be honest, until now, there are still moments from the past which I find it hard to let go. It is true that it shapes the way I see the world now. But I know that my faith in God is strong and I can soon let go all the things from the past. The priest also pointed out that God’s love is greater than our sins. He said that we must ‘repent’. In this case, we should allow God to cleanse our mind and heart. Every night before I sleep, I always ask God to forgive me for all the sins I committed that day. Also, I pray that he may be able to guide me in the right path and help me change my dark sides.

Overall, the gospel really has a meaningful meaning. It really helped me become a better person. Also, I will apply what I learned from the homily of Father Ariel. I will continue believing in the Gospel and I will allow it to guide me in my life.
