MGMT340: Petrie’s Electronic Case Questions Chapt 5/6

Chapter 5 Case Questions:

1. What do you think are the sources of the information Jim and his team collected? How do you think they collected all of that information? In the text it stated that Jim and his team collected information by doing interviews. These interviews would have been done with important stakeholders of the company. It also stated that they collected information from some of their loyal customers who were identified by the marketing department. Lastly, Jim and his team also collected information through existing systems they already have.

3. If you were looking for alternative approaches for Petrie’s customer loyalty program, where would you look for information? Where would you start? How would you know when you were done? I think I would start by looking at some of the competitor’s websites as well as gathering some other vendor brochures, sales information, and maybe check out some industry trade publications. I would consider myself done when I’ve exhausted all possible avenues of gathering sources of information.

5. Why shouldn’t Petrie’s staff build their own unique system in-house? I don’t think they should build their own unique in-house system because I think it would cost too much for one, I also think it would take longer to build than the time frame they have to complete the project. The only way I could see them building their own system would be if they had no cost or time constraints.

Chapter 6 Case Questions:

1. Are the DFDs in PE Figures 6-1 and 6-2 balanced? Show that they are, or are not. If they are not balanced, how can they be fixed? In my opinion I think they’re pretty balanced. On the Context Diagram you have the 2 inflows into the system from the source...
