Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation

I chose to write about the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. The tribe now resides in present day Mayetta, Kansas. They have also reacquired 128 acres of land that they previously owned in the Shab-eh-nay Reservation in the state of Illinois. I find the presentation of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation to be very well done on their homepage. They have a slide show that shows some of the people of the community and also shows some pictures of their land. This is a friendly way to present how they live as a community. This also makes it feel as though they are one big family. There is also a greeting that they play on the home page in their native language. This greeting makes it feel as though they are welcoming to all people that visit their website.

The first thing I want to know more about is how the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation ended up in Mayetta, Kansas. I want to know what the reason was that they had to leave their first home to go to Kansas. I am also interested to know how the journey ended being for the tribe to get to Kansas, was it a safe journey. Another interest I have is if they wanted to move to the new location or if they were forced to move by the government. Another thing I want to know is how they feel about their homeland in Kansas at the present time. Are they still trying to reacquire their old homeland and if they are what do they want to do with that land? The last information I am interested in is if they were promised compensation for moving to Kansas and if they were promised compensation, did the government fulfill that promise.

Another interest I have is the history of the relationship between the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and the colonists that would come into their lands. I am interested to know if the two groups had an amicable relationship or if they were fighting all the time.
