There were 229 patients that were viewed to partake in the experiment. The experiment was a 12-week study where the participants were injected with random amounts of lipegfilgrastim or amounts of pegfilgrastim. The patients received these doses in different phases. The ones who were currently in chemotherapy received the pegfilgrastim. After the chemotherapy was performed blood work was taken from the patients to get the results.

The patients who are performing in the study are both male and females eighteen years of age and older. The patients have to meet a specific criterion in order to be considered for the study. They need to be at a high-risk for all the stages of breast cancer. The patients had to be new to chemotherapy in the sense that they had have never had it before. This will allow them to be susceptible to multiple chemotherapy treatments. If patients happen to be exposed to the drug used in the chemotherapy, they are automatically excluded from the experiment. The patients have to fit into these characteristics to be considered for this study.

When the study was completed the results showed that the patients experienced a decrease in the duration of neutropenia or white-blood cell deficiency. The article concluded that the lipegfilgrastim is an effective treatment for breast cancer patients who are receiving chemotherapy. The highest dose for both lipegfilgrastim and pegfilgrastim are both safe treatments.
