The Lisbon seemed to be the perfect, happy family. They had big a house,
lived in a nice community, both parent’s had a great job, and had five beautiful
daughters ranging from 13 through 17 years of age. Mr and Mrs. Lisbon were
both math teachers and they seemed to be very happy. Their lives began to take
a turn for the worst when one of their daughter Cecila attempted to commit
suicide by cutting her wrists.
After the failed suicide attempt, Cecila was given weekly therapy treatments to
help her cope with whatever underlying issues that she was encountering. The
therapist did not really focus on getting to the root of her problems. Cecillia had
a deep depression issue and the family was trying to mask it by pushing her to
socialize with other people. The Lisbon decided that they would allow the girls to
have a chaperoned party and invite a few boys from the neighborhood. One of
the boys that was invited to the party had a mental disability and the other
children started laughing when he would talk. Cecillia was offended by the way
they was treating him. It stirred up something within her, perhaps she even felt
that she had a disability also, and they were making fun of her too. She asked to
be excused from the party and a few minutes after she left the party they heard a
noise and they decided to look outside, Cecila was laying on top of a fence post.
She had committed suicide by jumping through her bedroom window. Cecillia
had a deep psychological problem and because she was not getting the proper
treatment that she needed she ended up committing suicide.
After the death of Cecillia, the Lisbon family became distant from each
other and then they took a turn for the worst. The family tried to show a tough
exterior and acted as if they were fine, which in turn harbor a more fragile state
