Personal Narrative

Good Morning,

My name is Technical Sergeant …, I grew up an ARMY BRAT but decided to join the Air Force. Today I’m going to tell you why I joined, what I do, and why I decided to stay in the AF.

1. Why I joined?

I joined the Air Force because my plans of attending college were not going as planned.

I was too busy going out and enjoying the “College Life” instead of attending school.

Since, my father was paying for my tuition and things weren’t going well. I decided to join the Air Force after a few years of college. I wanted a sense of Independence and not to be a burden on my father.

2. What I do?

I’m currently stationed at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington, 8th Airlift Squadron,

doing administrative duties. I have several jobs but one of them is managing over

$150K in computer equipment. With the job I have I can be stationed anywhere in the

world. My first duty station was Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England and I worked in the Commanders Support Staff working closely with the Squadron Commander. After two years I got stationed at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma and worked in the Inspector General’s office. A few years later I was able to choose Eglin AFB, Florida to be closer to my family. After being stationed at Eglin AFB for four years. I was selected to work as a Faculty member for the University of Notre Dame, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. There I was responsible for all the administrative duties for the cadets. Some of my duties included were tuition payment, security clearances, and medical qualification.

I decided to stay in the Air Force because I wanted to give my son a better life style to grow up in. Be able to provide for him and give him the opportunity to see the world. I wanted to allow him the same opportunities I had while growing up.
