Introduction and Description of Problem

Many dogs and their owners are being prosecuted for the simple reason of the dogs breed.

Certain people across the country and world believe that certain breeds are more dangerous than others. Because of this there have been many laws made to prevent the socialization of these breeds into public places or not even allowing the breed into the town or city.

Governments should not use Breed Specific Legislation because it singles out dogs just for their breed not their personal history,

Anyone who owns a bully breed is affected. If, however, the dog does not have an owner, the shelter may just put the dog down right away. There have been laws made to allow the local governments to simply go to your house and tell you to hand over your dog.

This scare over bully breeds has been blown up by the media, and simple solutions can be used. Leash laws, and owner responsibility can make a huge difference in the communities.

Solution

Instead owner education, public education, and leash laws, should be pushed.

Owner Education

To be a responsible dog owner one must understand the breed of their dog.

Certain breeds need more attention, more grooming, early socialization

Certain breeds are physically stronger meaning the owners need to be capable of controlling their dog in different situations.

With owner education the owner will better understand their dogs and their dogs breed. This will help prevent uninformed owners who know nothing about dogs from going into the public. This is better than BSL because it will give the dogs a chance to live a good life with an owner who actually knows what they are doing.

Public Education

Since dogs and humans have cohabitated there has always been a scare towards certain dogs, and as time passes so do the breeds of dogs to be “scared” of.
