ABSTRACT
“Manglish is short for "Malaysian English" just as Singlish is Singaporean English” (THE COLORFUL 'MALAYSIAN ENGLISH' [MANGLISH], Thursday 14 February 2013). Besides, Manglish in Malaysia also known as ‘Bahasa Rojak’ among Malaysian. Manglish is a unique dialect of English spoken on the streets in Malaysia. It is a distorted usage of English that is mainly spoken between the locals. Additionally, Manglish can also be a direct translation of words or phrases from Malay to English. Manglish actually is a code - mixing which explained by TOM McARTHUR (1998) is terms in sociolinguistics for language and especially speech that draws to differing extents on at least two languages combined in different ways. The purpose of the study described in this research report was to investigate the use of Manglish among IIUM students. Besides, this research is also to determine the impact of using Manglish excessively in student’s formal interactions and assignments. Thus, after conducting a quantitative research method, the result obtained is the use of Manglish excessively among IIUM students can give negative impact on students’ performance in their academic.
