American Red Cross

“Clara Burton founded the American Red Cross and associated in Washington, Dc on May 21, 1881” (www.redcross.org). The American Red Cross was created to provide care for victims of natural disasters. I will briefly discuss how different leadership styles would affect group communication in your chosen organization. I will analyze the various sources of power found in the body and how might those different sources of power affect group and organizational communication. I will be identifying the motivational theories that would be effective within that culture. Evaluate the role of communication as an element of these theories. Also, I will describe the commitment of the workforce to the organization and their relationship to the organization’s communication.

Leadership Styles

According to the web, "We define leadership as the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of a vision or set of goals. The source of this power may be formal, such as that provided by managerial rank in an organization." The different types of leadership styles are trait theories, behavioral theories, contingency theories, situational leadership theory, path-goal theory, leader-member exchange theory, charismatic leadership, and transformational leadership. Trait leadership theories, “focus on personal qualities and characteristics.” The quality leadership theory wouldn't work with the American Red Cross because this approach focuses only on the leader and not the group. The behavioral theories concentrate on the behavior of the leader. The head shows organization, a team player and behavior in a professional manner in order for this approach to help group communication within the American Red Cross. For example, the leader needs to initiate the structure the organization needs to follow and be considerate of the group members' ideas and feelings. The situational leadership theory focuses on the group members or followers only. This approach will...
