In Huck Finn, we see high standing people that are supposed to set an example of piety and morality for the others. Yet in many of the cases, they fail to do so and act in ways that would go against what their morals and  religion teaches them to. This ironic situation is present in our very own times, and one such instance of this is found in present day Egypt. A journalist called Hamza Kashgari  tweeted his opinions of the successor of gaddafi. He said that he disagreed with public opinion that the king Abdullah was not a god like many claimed, and that although the king has good aspects, hamza does not like a few things about him. This led to a enraged outburst from the public and even more so among the kings officials and other religious leaders; who either wished to imprison him or kill him. This disregard for morals shows a hypocrisy that draws a parallel to the Grangerford and Sheperdson predicament, in which the religious families both ignored their christian lessons and killed each other for no reason. Just like in this quote, “The men took their guns along, and kept them between their knees... The Shepardsons done the same. It was pretty ornery preaching-all about brotherly love”. In both cases the members reject their virtuous high ground and make Twain’s point that there is a lack of morality in society, no matter how civilized some people think they are.

This happens in Huck Finn on pg 131 when the preacher from a church meeting preaches the Bible in front of a passionate crowd, and the crowd becomes greatly motivated. The quote is "You could not make out what the preacher said anymore, on account of the shouting and crying… they sung and shouted and flung themselves down on the straw, just crazy and wild." This shows how much the crowd was incited...
