Cultural Diversity among the American people during the late 20th and earlier 21st centuries.

In this poem it talks about a rock, river and a tree. I think the rock signifies that we all live on the same planet, that no matter where we're from, how we look, how we speak, we all live in the same place, which makes us all equal. We're all the same - human. "The Rock cries out to us, clearly, forcefully,

Come, you may stand upon my Back and face your distant destiny, But seek no haven in my shadow.

I will give you no hiding place down here. " This phrase tells us to be strong and stand on the Rock we live on and be big and bold, no matter who you are. But once you start to stand, don't be scared from what others say or hurt, keep going, you shouldn't hide what you think or the ideas you have to share.

The River. I think the river signifies the waters that separates us from one another. Yes, we live on different parts of the Rock, across different Rivers, but those rivers don't have to separate us and determine anything. Those rivers can bring us closer, and is has. Many countries have come together to form what we have now - United Nations. Because of the hope people back then must've had to trust others and hope for a peaceful place, we get to travel, we get to meet new people, see new sights, experience new pleasure and tastes. So no matter where along the river you may live, you can never be too far to be heard by someone, somewhere else.

The Tree. I think the Tree signifies where we come from- our ancestors- and where we plant ourselves. It doesn't matter what your ancestors have done in the past, good or bad, you make your own decisions and make your own choices. Done plant yourself lower than anyone else. The way they look, or they speak or where they're from doesn't make anyone better than anyone else. You have to make the first step to being great. You have to know and understand that what makes...
