Importance of Basic Research

Basic research is performed without even thinking about it but it is a very important factor in retaining knowledge and information on a certain topic of study. The definition of basic research is that it’s a systematic study directed toward fuller knowledge or understanding of the fundamental aspects of phenomena and of observable facts without specific applications towards processes or products in mind. For anyone to understand the certain topic they are studying, they must first do some basic research on the topic to better understand any key factors in it. From highly educated scientists, to just the average high school student, basic research is needed for anything that they are attempting to understand. One cannot just loot at a topic and just naturally understand what it is all about, that is why doing basic research on the topic of interest is necessary to become more knowledgeable on the topic.

Many people just overlook the need and importance of basic research, but it is actually one of the most important aspects of learning a new topic and understanding its key factors. For example, the topic of biodiversity has been becoming less and less understood by the public, therefore, basic research on the topic is necessary to retain information about it. But then again, why even do basic research on it? Why not just go deep into the subject to get what’s needed? The answer is that by understanding the information needed, one must first be knowledgeable of the topic itself to better understand the information that is going to be used. Since biodiversity isn’t as well understood as other topics, doing basic research on the topic is needed to understand the deeper content of this area of study.
