10 Things I Hate About You

Between 1590 and 1592, William Shakespeare wrote a brilliantly farcical play of love and trickery, The Taming of the Shrew. Over 400 years later, the movie 10 Things I Hate About You captures the comical styling with its modern version of love at odds. Although worlds apart, this funny high school romance set in upscale suburbia mirrors Shakespeare's elements of plot, character, theme and of course, humor.

10 Things I Hate About You was perfect remake of Shakespeare's novel of Taming of The Shrew. Although it was a more modern version, it did well in depicting the characters and the main plot. Kate like Katherine was portrayed as the shrew and in the end doesn't turn out as horrible as everyone had perceived. Bianca in 10 Things I Hate About You was like the it girls of her high school. Every girl wanted to be her and every guy wanted to be with her. Just like Bianca in Taming Of The Shrew, she was restricted from freely experiencing love until her elder sister had done so first. Patrick and Petruchio were very similar in character because at the beginning they are were both very interested in Kate and Katherine only for the money but later on developed true feeling for the women because they saw a different side to them that nobody could ever have. Gremio and Hortensio are both portrayed in one person, Joey. Joey is like a wing man for Cameron who is trying to get a chance with Bianca. He helps him plot with Patrick in order to get a single date with Bianca.

The movie did a great job transforming a play set 400 years ago to a more modern version young people can relate to and sort of see first hand how Taming of the Shrew coexists in their everyday lives. All aspects of the movie portray more realistic feelings and actions that may help the viewers understand the theme and have a new sense of appreciation for it . For example when Patrick parades around the stadium, embarrassing himself, in order to get Kate to forgive...
