Rehabilitation Paper

Rehabilitation is used often within the prison setting. Rehabilitation is used to change the behavior and attitudes of the inmates. The main goal of prisoner rehabilitation program is to prevent inmates from committing crimes and help them get back to their normal state of mind without committing any other crime. Rehabilitation also helps reduce the number of repeat offenders, having a rehabilitation program can also solve the issues of overcrowding in prisons.

The best rehabilitation program for prisoners is not only helpful to the inmates but society as well. Many people feel like the prisoners cannot be reformed, and whatever punishment that they get it will not help them and they will only go back into their old habits. For some of the inmates it’s true they will use rehabilitation for their wrongdoings, while some inmates learn from their mistakes and want to do something better with their life.

The origins of rehabilitation mainly focus on inmates and them changing their ways by trying to get them to talk and open up and express why they have committed the crime in the beginning and how committing the crime and going to prison could have been avoid. Some people may have a problem with doing this. The Quakers have believed that trying to get an inmate to open us and express their emotions were a good enough punishment.

Rehabilitation is very important to the prison system and our society. Inmates who use the various types of rehabilitation programs such as substance abuse and training can benefit from it as many good things can happen for them and it could possibly build up their self- confidence and self-esteem. Inmates may even be able to find employment while being in prison.
