Self-reflection and Motivational Theories

Motivation is one of the most complex phenomena in many organizations. Motivation of workers is one crucial function of HR departments in all organizations. Various organizations have different or diverse ways of motivating their employees. In one organization, for instance, motivation may involve increasing the salary of each worker whereas in another organization, it may include promoting employees to higher ranks or giving them more responsibilities at different management levels or departments. Motivated workers always strive to produce the most desirable outcome in their respective organizations. They perform their duties accordingly and ensure that the various organizational goals are achieved at their specific timespans. As mentioned, the concept of motivation is sometimes very complex and proves challenging to most HR managers (Marylène and Edward, 2005). Motivation works perfectly well when the motivator understands the employee well. Arguably, not every employee would prefer higher ranks or higher pay as a way of motivating them. Some have different interests. Some only requires increased communication channels in the organization, whereas others prefer enclosed office rather than the open-ended ones. In other words, motivation process is based on the understanding of the employee. This study is a self-reflection on what motivates taking into considerations some of the motivational theories put forward by various scholars.

As a student, treating me fairly with most respect motivates me. At school, there are rules governing the attainment of academic certificates. One such rule is attending lectures. Failure to attend lectures implies poor grades to students. On the contrary, attending class definitely makes students learn about the topic studied and manages to answer any questions related to it in examinations.
