a) How has thinking about the “mind-body” relationship changed within the context of history? 

Plato hypothesized that only death could separate the soul from the body while Aristotle identified the soul as a property of the body (Pinel, 2009). Rene Descartes believed that the mind controlled the brain while Huxley postulated that the mind was a product of the human brain.

b) Why might it be important and suggested to study the relevant history prior to studying a subject of "mind/body"? 

It is important to study the relevant history prior to studying a subject of "mind/body" in order to know the type of hypothesis or philosopher to use.

c) How would a “dualist” (brain/body-mind)” argue against a “monist-materialist” approach? 

A dualist would dispute the “monist-materialist” approach that matter and mind are similar and argue that the mind and body are disconnected where the body is made up of “ordinary matter.”

a) Name one philosopher, and one scientist, and briefly write about their contributions to biological psychology.

Philosopher Aristotle hypothesized that the mind and the body exist as similar aspects with the mind being a function of the body (Kalat, 2012). Additionally, a biological sociologist named Abraham Maslow contributed to biological sociology by exploring the composition of positive psychological health.

a) Briefly describe the process of how DNA influences protein synthesis. 

Protein synthesis depends on effectual communication of coded information from the genes to the ribosomes that manufactures protein (Schroeder, 2007). The body requires transitional messenger molecules because the DNA forms chromosomes that cannot shift from the nucleus. Instead, it uses the messenger RNA molecules.
