Introduction

A non-profit organization is an organization that uses its extra revenues to achieve its’ goals, rather than to create a profit for itself. There are many non-profit organizations in the world today. However, one in particular stands out. Zeta Tau Alpha is an international women’s fraternity here at Stockton University (the Kappa Xi Chapter). The Kappa Xi Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha holds many fundraising events throughout the year to donate.

With the increasing number of Greek organizations in the United States, it is hard to believe they are actually nonprofit organizations. Zeta Tau Alpha focuses almost all of their efforts towards raising money for their philanthropy, breast cancer education and awareness. One of the biggest contributions to society is the money that its members raise and donate to their philanthropy. On top of fundraising, the sorority also provides is members with a vast amount of opportunities in leadership, service, friendship, and education. The organization molds strong, smart, and confident women who are able to give back to their communities.

Zeta Tau Alpha was founded on October 15, 1898, at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. There were nine founders, who envisioned an organization that would include their visions of friendship and service. The mission of Zeta Tau Alpha is to make a difference in the lives of members while bettering their community. They believe in developing the potential of each member through innovative programming, service to others, academic achievement, and personal growth. Zeta Tau Alpha has a total of 249 collegiate chapter and 239 alumnae chapters. Current members of Zeta Tau Alpha are referred to as Zeta, and the sorority name is commonly shortened to ZTA or Zeta.
