Explain how organisations respond to information technology developments.

Organisations respond to information technology developments different dependant on what technology they use and what they use it for, a company that is always up to date with technology such as GAME will always benefit from developments as it means bigger and better products for them to sell whereas a company such as WHSmith may be hindered by the developments in IT because their products are going to be outdated such as pads and notebook, they aren’t needed with all the new tech coming out.

Organisations are vastly affected by technology developments such as schools using tablets in school for education needs to external changes such as the new generations of Xbox and PlayStation and how this affects companies such as GAME. The introduction of tablets into a school would have a large impact on a school because it would require a different style of learning, the teachers have to make sure that the students are using the tablets for educational uses and not manipulating the use of a tablet in class to view things like games and inappropriate apps. It’s a lot easier to tell the class is working when the students are using books because they cannot be distracted by stuff like the internet which is easily accessible should they be using a tablet. Moreover there has to be strict supervision on the students when using tablets as it is easy to steal one if there’s only one teacher supervising 35 students for example, also if one Is damaged then the right disciplinary action has to be taken into account.

On the other hand a company such as GAME is always put under pressure from technological developments, this year [2013] introduces the new Xbox [Xbox one] and the new PlayStation [PlayStation 4] which means that the company has to change their whole in-store games due to PlayStation 3 games not being compatible on the PlayStation 4.
