1.0 Understand the strategic context and purpose of work analysis

1.1 Explain how work analysis can contribute to continuous improvement within your organisation

In order to be able to address the above, one must first clearly explain the context in which the individual works and his/her role. The following is therefore a brief introduction which serves the aforementioned purpose.

The public agency in which I am employed, is the main and sole entity for development planning in the Maltese Islands. In my role as a Team Manager, leading a group of officers with mixed educational backgrounds, I am responsible for endorsing and forwarding a number of development planning application reports (compiled by the aforementioned officers) to the deciding body, which would ultimately decide on whether development proposals should be given the green light or not. Both the quality and quantity aspects of the reports, recommending an approval or refusal of a development proposal, are of utmost importance for performance assessment criteria, together with the timeliness in which these reports are drawn up. The staff within the Team consists of both professional (that is, graduate) and technical (that is, non-graduate) people and also includes a secretarial role.

It is therefore clear from the above that two major contributors towards a successful organisation focusing on land-use planning is productivity (in the sense of number of processed development planning application requests) and customer satisfaction (which does not necessary imply permissions issued but is more related to customer care and timeliness in issuing a report with a recommended decision).
