Dr. Jose P. Rizal maternal grandfather was Manuel de Quintos who was a popular lawyer in his time, while her paternal grandfather was Cipriano Alonso who belonged to Biñan's long list of Capitanes.

Manuel de Quintos Alonzo Realonda, a man of physical stature and strength, taught his nephew Jose Rizal the importance of well-being through outdoor activity. He influenced the young hero to visit the outdoors, do long walks with his pet black dog, Usman, and go horseback riding with his horse, Castaño.

Manuel de Quintos was an 18th century gobernadorcillo (mayor) of the Gremio de Mestisos, one of the two communities of Lingayen, the other one being Gremio de Naturales.  “Naturales” meant the native indios while “mestisos” were the half-Chinese, half-native sangleys.  The word “sangley” literally means trader in Chinese.

There was a large Chinese mestiso population in Lingayen so it was only here among all Pangasinan towns where the Spanish authorities allowed the simultaneous existence of these two different communities: themestiso sangleys settled on the western part of the town by the bank of the Agno River where they conducted their business in what they called the Parian (Chinese for commercial and residential district); and the naturales on the eastern side, each with their own municipio (municipal bldg.) andgobernadorcillo (mayor).
