Climate Regulation

Introduction

This research paper focuses on an ecosystem service belonging to the category of regulatory services. The primary regulation service, in this dissertation, is climate control. An ecosystem refers to a natural unit comprising of living things (plants, microorganisms, and animals) as well as their physical environment. In this system, both the non-living and the living elements operate collaboratively as an interdependent system. The system functions in a manner that if one section is tempered with it can possess an impact on the entire system. Broadly, ecosystems can be marine or terrestrial, coastal or inland, rural or urban.

At a larger scale, ecosystems can also stretch from the local to the global. In several cases, there is a proof that ecosystems interact and overlap. On the other hand, ecosystem services refer to the services, provided by the ecosystem, which benefit people. Instances of ecosystem services are familiar including fiber, fuel, and food provision, as well as the cultural services that avail benefits to individuals via recreation and aesthetic pleasure of nature. In addition to that, other services, accruing from ecosystems, are not so familiar. These services include the control of climate, flood protection, purification of water and air, nutrient cycling, and soil formation. At broader levels, there are four classes of ecosystem services as defined by the MA (Millennium Ecosystem Assessment). These services entail regulating services, supporting services, provisioning services, and cultural services. Since Ecosystem services are the benefits that people acquire from ecosystems, Regulating services are the advantages gained from the control of ecosystem processes (Brauman, 2014). Climate regulation is the primary issue of concern in this research paper.

Ecosystems affect the climate both globally and locally....
