B. Abstract:

Expenditure profiles are a useful way of summarizing information on the levels of socioeconomic and the characteristics of the poor in a society. They also provide us with important clues to the underlying determinants of socioeconomic status. So this research is about examining the effect of certain variables represented in region , level of education and work status on determining the level of socioeconomic of a person in Assiut governorate.

To find out whether these variables affect the level of socioeconomic status or not we examined some individuals from Assiut governorate by using a secondary data collected by central agency for public mobilization and statistics (CAPMAS) in 1995 /1996 on their characteristics.

We used the Gamma and Cramer’s v measurements of association to test for correlations and finally we used multinomial logistic model. At the end, we used the results of the model and measurements to reach our conclusion.

The conclusion was very expected, where we found that level of education, area and even work status play an important role in determining the individual’s socioeconomic status.
