A Father’s Letter

When I was in your age, I was ready to give anything just to experience true love. It all started when I met your mother. She’s just the most adorable woman I’ve ever known. She has that smile which makes my heart weak. Oh God I love her. We were so madly in love with each other. We went to cinemas, we watched the stars, and all that stuff which typical couples would do. We were too young to know what love really is, so we never cared and we just let ourselves be carried with what we felt with each other. It was just weird because every moment we’re together, she’d note down what we had done the whole day (like a diary). I asked her what’s her diary’s all about and she answered, “It’s for me. I love reminiscing the times we’re together so I have to write everything here so I won’t forget everything that had happened ever since the first day I met you.” My breathing stopped. I really love her with all my heart and soul. And so when Valentine’s Day came, I prepared lots of things to surprise her. That’s the day when I was going to propose to her. I was so sure that she’s the one I want to marry. I can’t imagine life without her, she’s my everything.

I decorated the park with candles, balloons, etc. and I even practiced my speech so I’d appear as a romantic man in front of her. When everything was set, I called her and told her to go to the park. The moment she came in, it’s like my world stopped. The girl of my dreams was walking towards me wearing that smile that has killed me a million times. She was so surprised with what I did, and she thanked me for it. I’ve never seen her so happy before. I was so grateful that I was the reason why she said that that Valentine’s Day was the happiest day of her life.

We spent that day talking about ourselves. It’s as if the two of us are the only people in the world. We didn’t care about anything – just the two of us. Before that night ended, I made my decision. I have to...
