The Silenced

Young male teacher Inho is appointed to an elementary school for hearing-impaired students in Gwangju, South Korea. He finds something strange in school—child is cried in restroom but security said students are always acting to attract attention, boy Minsoo is always injured to class but other teachers seem no attention. One night Inho sees supervisor of girls’ dorm is hitting girl student Yeondo, he censures her and take Yeondo to hospital. Teacher contacts Yujin, a local human rights activist to help girl. But through communication, they discovered ugly truth—Yeondo, and several other students, are being physically and sexually abused by teacher and principal! Those poor children are abused and threatened, that if they tell others they will be killed. They are all in terrible situations that their parents are died or also disabled, so they have less ways to ask for others’ help. Minsoo’s little brother commits suicide because of sexual assault by male teacher. After knowing that, Inho and Yujin complaint to Education Bureau and police office, but those wealthy crimes have already bribed those leaders so they fail. Later journalists from Seoul hear that horrible things and report children on TV, society is shocked and those crimes are arrested. But on court, although those fighters have lots of evidence even video records, weak disable group is still suppressed. Principal allures victim’s relatives and procurator by money, and also attracts teacher Inho for financial support on his daughter’s therapy. Finally, procurator judge principles and teachers slight, and boy Minsoo perishes together with that bad male teacher. Highlight of this movie is furious fighters conflict with polices under water cannon, Inho holds picture of died Minsoo, cried repeatedly to apathetic passerby, “this boy cannot hear, cannot say, his name is Minsoo.” Although failed in punish bad person, fighters protect poor children and give them care and love.
