Upon completion of a self-assessment on the relevant behavioral indicators it was brought to my attention that I need to learn to more effectively delegate my own workload and provide opportunities for others.

According to Amanda Ebokosia, author of “Be A Healthy Leader, Master The Art Of Delegation” (http://www.forbes.com/sites#/sites/glassheel/2012/06/14/be-a-healthy-leader-master-the-art-of-delegation/), there are four components to mastering the art of delegation. They include the following: create a system of feedback with your team when assigning tasks, keep the tasks open, allow members of the team room to develop their own tasks, which will work toward the general goal of the project, spend more time overseeing functions, rather than creating them, and get a head start of your day.

In the article “Smart Leadership: Delegate, Prioritize and Simplify” by Nicole Fallon (http://www.businessnewsdaily.com/5352-smart-leadership.html#sthash.Pxfi4gwz.dpuf) she discusses the idea that delegation is important, but “before you begin delegating and completing tasks, take the time to build up your team's strength and morale.”

Based upon my own personal analysis and study, I believe delegation is one of my weakest areas when it comes to my leadership skill set. I’ve learned that delegation is a necessity in order to be an effective leader that can successfully grow and run an organization. It is my goal to one day run a non-profit organization and without adequate delegation skills that goal will not become a reality. In order to improve in this area, implementing aspects and ideas from Nicole Fallon and Amanda Ebokosia will start me on the right track. I don’t expect to acquire this skill set overnight, but I believe if I put in the time and effort now, it will pay in starting the journey to achieving my goal.
