Much of your success in business will depend on your ability to influence the people around you. (Kelly 2013) This statement has been used in every aspect of my life. Personally its has been proven to be effective. I first heard this statement from my mentor when I was in 7th grade. He further explained to me the best was to influence any situation in your favor is to understand the situation before you speak on it. Which would require you to be a great listener. So from there I began to work on my communication skills. I have always been a outspoken person. The communication skill that worked best for me was active listening.

I worked for a company named cablevision in the inbound sales department. My time spent in this department making sales led to me making 100,000 my first year, getting promoted to the lead representative and collecting an extra perks at work for training the sales reps with my steps and procedures that I found to be most productive on the phone. For me active listening seemed to always work the best for me. I learned that if you can get a customer three times in a row, its likely that if you try to close the sale on the 4th question the answer will usually be yes. Secondly it builds a positive rapport with the customer because it allows the customer to open up and talk to tell you everything you need to know. Third I would always build a undeniable package that no one would want to refuse, and lead the to believe that im just doing them a favor since the conversation went so well.

Using the active listening technique allowed me to ask tons of probing questions to get to know what the customer giving me more info to help me close out the sale. Sometime I could get them talking and I would have to say anything until it was time to close the sale because they were so...
