One of the best ways for a parent to love their child is to train through example (Clinton & Sibcy, 2006). Because children notice actions more than words, they are more likely to pick up on their parent’s behavior. Another good way for parents to love their child is by training through discipline (Clinton & Sibcy, 2006). Clinton and Sibcy note that children need structure, boundaries, and training through discipline (2006). The third way for parents to love their children is by training them through love (Clinton & Sibcy, 2006). Money cannot replace or buy a persons’ love. In relating to the child, I would recommend using empathy, assertiveness, and respectfulness. Relating to the child through warmth and responsiveness while using active listening tells the child you care. You can communicate love to your child by allowing them to express their unique opinions and tastes.

Cautions I would provide for parents is avoid showing favoritism (Clinton & Sibcy, 2006). By showing favoritism towards one child, the other child will feel neglected and unloved. Another caution I would provide parents is to avoid living the child’s life for them (Clinton & Sibcy, 2006). Each child is a unique individual with unique talents and interests. Children resent their parents when they try to live their dreams through them. Another caution is to avoid providing an effortless childhood (Clinton & Sibcy, 2006). Child with effortless childhoods does not develop necessary boundaries and responsibilities to live effectively. The last caution I would provide parents is to avoid protecting the child against all pain (Clinton & Sibcy, 2006). Clinton and Sibcy state that if people avoid necessary pain, they will not learn to endure disappointment, anxiety, boredom, and sacrifice (2006).
