Obesity Rates in the United States and how it Effects Children

Abstract

Obesity rates in the United States have increased drastically within the recent years. A lot of the percentage increase in obesity is because so many children are becoming obese. It is extremely unhealthy for anyone to be obese let alone children suffering in different ways because of childhood obesity. Childhood obesity can lead to juvenile diabetes just as well as the adults who suffer with diabetes with one of the reasoning’s of many being obesity. Taking care of and teaching a child how to eat healthy and how to take care of themselves from young children is very important. This is because children tend to adapt to and grow with what they know from their surroundings. As well as what they are introduced to and what is available to them is what they adapt to, such as certain types of food that is made available to them If they are introduced to unhealthy food and unhealthy snacks, that is what they will adapt to. If they are introduced to healthy food and healthy snacks, that is what they will adapt to.

Child obesity is growing at a high rate and should be taking seriously. In my opinion, I feel schools should not have snack and soda vending machines because this makes it a lot easier for the child to access unhealthy snacks and beverages. This is pretty much the same as the school contributing to the unhealthy fattening snacks. School staff, the nurses, teachers, principals and other staff always make an issue when a student is overweight. They normally start by calling in the parent or sending home a physical form stating the child needs to be checked by his or her doctor. It is stated that a child being overweight is very unhealthy.
