How Cells Divide

Human beings undergo a transformation of being single-celled zygotes to an organism with trillions of cells by the process of mitosis. Cells copy and duplicate their DNA and divide into two identical cells with the same genetic information. This process is called Mitosis and human cells undergo mitosis all the time. One cell copies its genetic information and gets ready to divide. As the cell divides into two cells the duplicated genetic material is now in another cell. The cells divide by the power of two. So, one cell divides and becomes two cells. Those two cells then divide and become four cells. The four cells divide and become eight cells. After forty-seven times of dividing the original one cell is now at 100 Trillion cells.

Cell division is important to a single-celled organism because that is how it reproduces. The only way for that one single-celled organism to reproduce is to use cell division. Without cell division the single-celled organism will soon die and never be able to reproduce.

Cell division is successful by having exactly duplicated DNA and passing all the necessary checkpoints. The daughter cells must have the same genetic information and structures as the parent cell. Without having the same genetic information the daughter cells will not be able to undergo the necessary biological processes it takes in order to survive.

The genetic information between other body cells is the exact same. When the egg cell was fertilized by the sperm cell they combined and determined the genetic information for the new offspring. That genetic information kept getting copied and duplicated throughout the entire development of the new organism. The genetic information stayed the same and will always continue to be the same the longer the organism survives.

Plants have found asexual reproduction to be beneficial due to a number of factors. There is no need for a partner to reproduce...
