Rapping has always been a large part of AfricanAmerican culture. It can be traced back
a couple hundred years to West Africa where people would somewhat ceremoniously tell stories
along with the rhythmic beating of drums. This music was taken to the United States around the
early 1800’s when we began importing slaves from West Africa. After some time, that music
developed into Jazz and then Hip Hop into modernday rap. It served as a type of escape from
everything that was happening around the AfricanAmericans living in the ghetto. Some artists
rapped about the violence around them and wondered why it would not stop. Others rapped
about taking part in the violence. There were songs about their experiences in their
neighborhood, domestic violence, gang violence all hardships found in the ghetto. Nowadays,
many people criticize rap because songs are comonly about sex, money and drugs. One
rapper, 2Chainz, is literally known for being among the dumbest rapper of them all. His songs
make little to no sense and he seems to say whatever comes to mind and make words up in
order to get something to rhyme. His song 'Birthday Song,' his most popular song, is nicknamed
'the worst song of all time.' However, there is a deeper meaning that many fail to grasp.
The song begins with the lyrics, 'They ask me what I do and who I do it for. And how I
come up with this shit up in the studio. All I want for my birthday is a big booty hoe.' In the very
beginning of the song, 2Chainz objectifies women. He treats them as if they are objects
designed for his sexual pleasure. He acknowledges nothing but her butt and never even
describes the person in the song. She is simply another ‘big booty hoe.’ He even implies that
they can be given to someone for his birthday. He believes that she is nothing but property. This
