Team A has chosen to write their term paper on the economic effects of the current immigration policy. Team A in their thesis statements propose that “Our belief is that the current immigration system is plagued with inefficiencies that harm the U.S. economy. We intend to identify these inefficiencies and propose solutions to them. In terms of the given objectives of term assignment this is a strong start to a paper, and provides the reader with a clear notion of what specific public policy intervention it is that Team A has chosen to address. These thesis statements also offer up a clear notion of Team A’s stance on the public policy intervention which is that the current immigration policy does harm to the U.S. economy due to what they deem to be inefficiencies that plague the immigration system. Team A begins that paper by attempting to summarize the current immigration policies. Team A notes that they are doing this because they believe that summarizing the current policy “may” be beneficial to help point out some of the flaws that they believe the current U.S. immigration legislation holds. Team A goes on to state that “It is necessary for a description of each component of the current policy to be done before delving into the problems that these components create. Team each proceeds to breakdown the current U.S. immigration policy down into six different subsection, and does an adequate job describing each one which comprise of “Family-Based Immigration, Employment-Based Immigration, Refugees and Asylees, The Diversity Visa Program, Other Forms of Humanitarian Relief, and finally U.S. Citizenship. In defending their position that U.S. immigration policies are bad for U.S. Economy team A states “Basically, we believe that this legislation itself causes many issues by simply being complicated and confusing, along with creating unintentional inefficiencies and detriments to our economy.” There is no strong economic information that could have been...
