Assignment 1

1. YOUR ASSIGNMENT: Interview someone you know who is in a managerial position (middle or upper level) in business and discuss their thoughts on Business Ethics. If you don't know anyone, contact your professors and we'll suggest someone we know to you. We would like you to at least ask the following questions - and you are encouraged to ask and report on additional questions you may ask.

a) What is your experience of ethical or unethical behavior in the business world and how do you define it?

In México, the line between ethical and unethical is a very fine line, sometimes you have to make decisions based on knowledge and not on official procedure. I think you always know the difference between good and bad, the right way to do it and the “not so right way” but being good could be bad for business so you tend to make decisions based on result and not on concepts.

For me , the biggest line is drawn between the government and the people. What I mean by this is that the easiest way to do good business and still be ethical in your way of life , is to always do right with your employees, your competitors, and your own enterprise, but the only way to do so, is buy making some wiggle room in the budget, buy skimping on state , and federal taxes, or by having a lot of riteoffs .

b) Do you believe business has any moral or social responsibility above and beyond following the law?

I guess that depend on the business and business model. If you have stock holders or many owners, then the responsibility of the company is to make money, if this is the case, if this is the case, then there is nothing moral or social responsibility. Greed is a very dangerous thing to have, it could work booth ways. The relies in the product and quality you offer. Making money is just a part of the equation.
