Carman, Tim. "Every Thanksgiving, the President Pardons a Turkey (or Two): What's the Point?" Washington Post 21 Nov. 2014: n. pag. Print.

The name of the author is Tim Carman. The name of the selection summarized is Every Thanksgiving, the president pardons a turkey (or two): What’s the point? from The Washington Post. The purpose of this article is to inform the reader on why a turkey is spared by a president every year. For about 50 years, the president has let a turkey and a runner-up be excused from Thanksgiving every year. The man of very important choices over the United States makes a decision on two turkeys to spare. The two chosen turkeys will be named by the public and excused for a crime they didn’t commit. The newly famous turkeys will move to Morven Park and will be tourist attractions. They will stay their until they die, which depends on their ability to withstand the change in temperature and also being able to stand on their legs for long periods of time. Many people had some good and not so good things to say about the idea of the yearly turkey pardoning. The people who produce the turkeys aren’t as against the president’s choice to pardon a turkey as many activists. There were, then, many people who aren’t in the turkey business and still think it’s ok for the president to do what he does every year. Those people believe that one should do as they please and put all of their fuss into something else more important. This selection shows why the president excuses a turkey the day before Thanksgiving every year.
