Ethics and values are very hard subjects to discuss because they are very personal to everyone. What one person views as the right thing to do someone else may disagree with completely. When people consider what is ethical they are feeling very deeply about the subject and it’s hard to sway someone from their beliefs. The Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory self-assessment developed a process to help people make ethical decisions. There are four steps. The first step is to consider who is being affected by the decision. The second step is to consider the impact of the decision. The third step is to think about what ethical perspective is reflected by the decision. The final step is to think how the decision can be justified on ethical grounds. The assessment asked a series of questions to determine my CORE beliefs and how I might react to certain decisions based on my ethical standards. I will explain these findings and compare them to how Kudler Fine Foods is run as a company.

The first part of the Williams Institute assessment looks at character. According to Williams Institute Ethics Awareness inventory self-assessment “You tend to base your ethical perspective on what it is good to be, rather than what it is good to do. You believe that ethics should focus on ways to help people achieve moral excellence.” I do have a tendency to look at the individual as opposed to the actions they perform. Just because a person does one thing ethically right doesn’t mean that they are good people all the time. According to Williams Institute Ethics Awareness inventory self-assessment “You value such qualities as honesty, wisdom, and integrity and you place greater emphasis on demonstrating these qualities than on following the rules.
