Regulatory and Legislative Issues

According to Aiken (2004) Law is the body of rules and regulations that governs people’s behavior and their relationships with others in society and with the state (Aiken, 2004, pg.57). A health care law that is already in effect is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. In this paper I will discuss how Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act have an impact on health care. I will explain how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will or will not affect health care and how will it impact health care in terms of cost. Then I will explain how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act impact health care in terms of quality. Furthermore, I will discuss groups are in favor of it and what groups are opposed to the law.

There are so many Americans that are uninsured here in United States because Health Insurance was not affordable. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. “This law includes a large number of health-related provisions to take effect over the next four years, including expanding Medicaid eligibility, subsidizing insurance premiums, providing incentives for businesses to provide health care benefits, prohibiting denial of coverage/claims based on pre-existing conditions, establishing health insurance exchanges, and support for medical research” (The patient protection, 2010, pg. 3).

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has an impact on health care because it will ensure that all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care and significantly reduce long-term health care costs (The patient protection, 2010, pg. 1). According to the Patient protection article (2010) the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has determined that these bills will provide coverage to 32 million Americans while lowering health care costs over the long term (The patient protection, 2010, pg. 2).
