Communication is a very important part of our everyday lives and how we interact with other people on a regular basis. It is also one of the main concepts of how and what we learn starting at birth through our entire lifecycle.

I chose to take the Communication Quiz on mindtools.com and some of my assessment findings were much different that I personally thought before taking the test. I have always felt that I was a good communicator so the results were very surprising. My test results stated that I am a capable communicator but I sometimes experience communication problems. The results suggest that I need to take the time to think about my approach to communication and focus on receiving and sending messages effectively. The first thing that will help me become a better communicator is to understand my objective and my audience. Plan what I want to say and how I will send this message, it also suggest that I look for feedback on how well the message was sent. Sometimes I am not as forward with certain people because I’m always being told that I am too forward for most people that I deal with on a regular basis. The test results states that I also have a communication gap in sending clear and concise messages to my receivers. It says that when delivering messages I should consider the sensitive content of my message, my receivers preference in receiving the message, and if there will be any questions to be answered as well as any restrictions in timing. There are also some areas in receiving and interpreting messages that are sent that calls for some improvement as well, such as paying close attention to a person’s body language, allowing that person to speak without interrupting or thinking about what I am going to say next before they finish their message and being an empathic listener would help me become better at receiving messages correctly.
