1. For the TIMS system architecture, I think that the following design will be efficient:

This is considered a Bus Topology. I selected this because it is one of the more simple topologies to use for a network layout. This allows the stations to access the router without having to worry about too many issues. The different stations will connect to the router using a line format or often known as the backbone. One of the benefits is that you will not require a ton of hardware such as cabling to accomplish this.

2. For the issue of legacy data, I’m not exactly sure what you are asking. If you are referring to current legacy data, then I would suggest running it and converting it onto a hard drive so that you do not lose the data. If you are referring to having legacy data as an issue later on down the road, then I would suggest something along the lines of proper data storage. There will be a lot of data being processed through TIMS, and although you may not need that forever, I would suggest an expiration date such as 5 or 10 years. That would mean you would have to have the server capability for storage for that allotted time.

Web-centricity is the latest and greatest in IT. You have to make sure that you are up to date with the technology so that you are not left in the dark. I witness this occasionally when I have friends and family ask me computer related questions. For this to happen to a business, you would quickly lose customers and clients as well as any third-party support if you do not “keep up with the times”.

For scalability, you always hope for your business to expand significantly, but you can never be sure so you must prepare as if it will. One issue I see with servers is usually during the holiday season when you have everyone on the website at the same exact time and the site crashes.
